she had to veer off of the road to avoid hitting me.

What if she had decided to not swerve off the road and instead run into the back of your car. When the insurance companies and police look at it, she'd be in the right (and be covered) and you'd be in the wrong with a screwed over car.

Over FOUR YEARS, which is a major amount of time in this market, I think iOS, Andriod and Windows phones with all be pretty much the same. I think there's going to be a point where that not more more to do with hardware in terms of innovative features. The OS's themselves are really just shells for running apps anyway, and they will all do this fairly effectively in similar ways, a lot like OSX and Win7 are two good OS's. The key will be the app market, which Apple currently holds a huge lead, but in 4 years it would seem that Android and Windows will catch up in terms of IMPORTANT apps to run, so that will be levelized as well.

The iPhone will always have the crazy fanboys to their advantage but Android and Windows phones have the flexibility factor of an open platform where a number of manufacturers can make phones at different price points in different markets.

So in 4 years, I think all will have similar market shares, with iOS being at the bottom of the three just in terms of number of phones because of the closed platform syndrome, but not by much. However, the iPhone will be the most profitable of the three for the OS manufacturers since Apple also maks the hardware.

So let's call it a tie - everybody wins, including the consumer. Remember fanboys - competition and choice is a GOOD thing!

    Tony

The Apple laptops are a staple machine for Mac using pro photographers so this would be a perfect event to announce an upgrade along with a new version of Aperture. It would look rather odd to have new C2D iMacs and MacPros without an upgraded MBP.

There's more to this than anyone here as realised I believe.

A hundred with 6 zero's is an awful lot of cash, even for Apple, but what gets me is just how quickly this has been settled.

Before going down that road though, lets understand that fighting this case could have cost Apple between, let's say half as much and maybe 3 times as much, so it's a fair gamble. Additionally it seems that Apple have endorsed the creative patent, which may pave the way to creative receiving further license fees of which it seems Apple will receive a share.

The deal also lets creative move into the accessory market with made for ipod and out of the mp3 player market. I don't know if this is usual but I have an ipod which cost 270, but I have around 400 of made for ipod accessories. Perhaps creative will earn more from accessories than their zen. creative have struggled against the ipod, the zune may not have a significant impact on ipod sales but it would destroy the zen.

In many ways it is all the accessories for the ipod that make it so irresistible. creative may not only join the made for ipod market, but enhance it and ultimately benefit Apple. Also whilst not clear here whether the tag is free or not, I believe the made for ipod tag earns apple 10% of sales, which if not free is likely to recover all if not more than the $100 m paid to creative.

Now to the issue of how quickly Apple settled. I have to wonder why Apple could not have hung on for 6 months, offered creative half or 3/4 as much and had their hand snapped off because of creative's declining situation. Put simply I believe the deal had to be done quickly because Apple are about to announce something big, something that may have made the $ 100m look miniscule.

I was thinking the same thing. Creative was asking for a cease order to stop deliveries from Asia. There must be something on that super transport leaving Shanghai harbor last week.

Lucky its not Sony. Those that exposed it would be in a never ending court case, and everyone's IP that visited macrumors would be subpoenaed by a federal judge.

Did anyone else notice what the guy who wrote that article said.
"My home DSL connection clocks in consistently at around 4.9 gigabits per second - fast by American residential standards - and it still took me five hours to download a movie from Unbox."

The Woodcrest MacPro will suddenly feel very old if Apple manage to put Cloverton in MacPro early next year.
It appears I will be living in a cardboard box under a bridge sooner than I expected. :) All these juicy new Apples will put me in the poor house!

USB 3 is coming next year. The only reason Apple has yet to implement it is because Intel hasn't. But that will change in Ivy Bridge.

Yep. There is little reason for Apple to fear USB 3. It's slower in both theoretical maximum speed and FAR slower in real world maximum speed. The only advantage is... Uhm... TB supports USB so... I guess there isn't one. Yes, I think USB 3 is quite possibly going to be the last iteration of USB.

I don't really get the point of wireless video unless you can somehow incorporate a pause feature into it. What am I going to do with the video if I have to answer the door or phone or go to the can or get a snack? Do I have to go to my computer and reset the video and hope that when it streams to the TV or whatever it's at the right spot? For me it would be much easier to just move the movie to my iPod, put the iPod in a dock with a remote and watch it that way. Unless maybe the new airport device has it's own remote! Now that might be interesting. :D

How does streaming music to my iPhone help me, when O2 cap my Internet usage, and then charge when you use more.

this service is for apple fans who will swallow anything apple sells and ask for more, even as they pay extra data charges to listen to music they already own.

So, the video streaming to TV device... how likely do you all think it is that they'll let you stream your own video through it? If I could stream my totally legally sourced DivX movies (ahem) through it that would be awesome beyond words!

I think they'd have to let you stream anything you want over it. The only problem I could see is that maybe it wouldn't support DivX or some other formats. Quicktime doesn't support DivX without plug-ins, right?

It's illegal. Police need to publicly announce check points before setting up. Ironic they would want to pull the app since this is the basis that makes them legal in the first place.

I'm not sure that's the case in Texas, but I will acquiesce since I don't remember that from school and also am typing on my iPhone. Either way, the app is still a good one, and shouldn't be removed.

    Safari!
    False.
How would Safari be able to install that stuff? Forgive me for not knowing, but I haven't seen anything that allowed you to install software, or any executable code, from iOS Safari. Not with Apple's model. Maybe jailbroken, but that's a different story.
The other poster doesn't know what they're talking about.

Steve, if you are reading this, make a nano in ORANGE and I'll buy one. :)

Sorry if someone already mentioned orange in this thread. I just came along and couldn't be bothered to read the entire thread up to this point.

    ORANGE!

    Sad, but true :(

(And I don't feel the need to argue or debate or say more in this thread to justify this obvious fact.)
Too bad you don't feel the need to learn the facts either. Just where are these viruses going to come from? How will they get executed/installed? Answer: They will not come because they can't execute. That's what a walled garden is: protection from the wild.

What about the Mac Pro? It's way past due, would that come first, before the iMac?

CPUs for Mac Pro (codename Romley) won't be out until Q4 2011 so we are looking at late 2011 or early 2012 update.

One thing that will stink about the iMac update is that the GPU will most likely only get 8 PCIe lanes, as 4 of them will go to Thunderbolt. Sandy Bridge offers a max of 16 PCIe lanes. So Apple, maybe you feel like adding USB3 to the mix to use the last 4 lanes.

    * yes I know the performance of a GPU doesn't drop THAT much going from x16 to x8, but still.

And toddy, a 6950 would be decent, but I don't see Apple offering it. I see the 6750 akin to the MacBook Pros going in (sadly.)

Even the 5750 in the 27" is around the same speed as the 4850. Apple just gimped the 4850 by using the GDDR3 version and only giving it 512MB /shakefist.

The ATI 5750 is actually 5850M but it is marketed as 5750 as 5850M has performance similar to desktop 5750. Since AMD changed their naming system and 69xxM is the successor of 58xxM, it is likely the the next high-end iMac will have AMD 6950M.

Now read through the rest of the posts after that and discover that Finder does not support Cut and Paste.

And where in the first post from the OP did they mention 'in the Finder'?

Its plain to see what is happening here. But I agree with you I will not concede my rights for any reason what so ever.

I stop listening to anyone who ever utters the words "Constitutional or not..."

Our basic freedoms as Americans aren't worth conceding for any reason whatsoever, no matter how noble the goal may seem from a distance.

The way I see it is why buy a product when it is being improved (no matter how little or much) and should be the same price or lower... most likely within the next few weeks?

seems to me that lots of people complaining about the data on mobile phone issue are overlooking something. When network capacity allowed them to, networks gave unlimited data - then we all got data hungry, killing capacity and forcing limits. At some point soon (probably with 4G) the networks won't have a capacity issue with increased levels. They probably won't go back to true unlimited - they are businesses after all - but we could be looking at broadband rates similar to landline, maybe 15/month for 100GB or so. As and when that kicks in, having a media cloud will be a huge blessing. Until then, wifi users and home users will still benefit.

3G just doesn't have anywhere near the massive capacity 4G can be optimised to give.
