I was there yesterday, and all Greenpeace did was hand out leaflets at the entrance to people entering the Expo at the Olympia. Hardly the actions of a "militant eco-group". I honestly didn't see them do anything else out of the ordinary, especially compared to other stand-holders who also roamed freely around the exhibition giving out leaflets etc.

I saw them in the pub across the road in the afternoon, and they looked they were having a hasty meeting about what had transpired. One would assume that "chucking them out" is only going to have an adverse effect on the publicity Apple receives about its attitude to "green issues" (although in this instance it wasn't Apple themselves that had Greenpeace removed, instead it was the MacExpo organisers).

Its a real shame, as they weren't doing any real harm, I think they have probably been harshly treated in this instance!

Exactly. There was no violence, no rowdiness. This is how the current mindf*cks work. People hear that a group or activist with views counter to the needs of govenrment and big business and their heads immediately fills with images of extreme millitancy. As I said - they handed out leaflets. That's it.

It's the same when the intelligence services and police stage 'terror raids' on houses where the inhabitants have no connection to terror. People immediately think 'Ahh, they've got those terrorist scum...' When the suspects are released without charge no one asks how zero evidence can possibly lead to an armed raid.

the iPhone is going to be a useless product unless they release it in big enough sizes to replace my iPod. It's like carrying two ipods around. I already have a 60 gig...why would I spend the extra money to buy an expensive phone that only holds 5 gigs or something? It's just a dumb idea, unless they release major sizes that can replace the big ipods. I don't know why everyone is drooling over this thing.
ppl are going to want it because it's a phone. I will buy it for the look.

Again, for those with reading difficulties, I made no such claim. I did agree with a post that implied it might be relegated to being considered Mac only. I'll still agree that might be what happens. I hope not, but I hoped FW would be successful too.

I am pretty sure a google search will find some adult-ed courses that might be helpful for you.

"You mean like FW was faster than USB and USB2? And yes, it will work with any USB device. You think that is an incentive for drive vendors to invest in it? Really?"

^ You implying it will be DOA. For someone criticizing reading comprehension I sure have to do a lot of work for you.

Here's the gist of your worthless posts:

what the heck LOL, this is a joke right? I have NEVER seen a single new windows phone being used in public nor do I see that many Android devices in the UK. mostly I see

    1. BlackBerries
    2. iPhones

never seen a new windows phone LOL, most people who are happy with iPhones etc, will stick with them and won't bother going for anything else.

Windows Mobile is doomed for failure, how many times has it been revamped and rebranded over the years? like 3 or 4 times if I remember

    dave

There is no "Napa chipset". Like I said, Napa is a hardware-platfom, composed to CPU (Yonah), chipset (Intel Express 945) and WLAN ()Intel PRO/Wireless). The amount of RAM might be limited due to timing-issues and the like.

(And I don't feel the need to argue or debate or say more in this thread to justify this obvious fact.)

Yes. Absolutely. A closed filesystem where you're only able to download anything significant through a moderated app store is going to be riddled with viruses.

The trackpad option is awesome. Every bundled Apple mouse I've gotten for the past 15 years has gone straight in the trash. The only good mouse Apple ever made was the ADB II. At least now I get a free trackpad to play with! Cool!

Agreed. Trackpad is the only way to go.

The free trackpad option in place of the magic mouse has been offered in Apple Stores since December 2010. It has only been a verbal offer if the buyer requested it.

I bought my iMac this way and several friends recieved the same.

I came to the opposite conclusion....

Running many compute-bound single-threaded benchmarks and apps - I saw how NT (pre Win2k) would balance across CPUs (that is, a "100%" compute-bound job would show each CPU running at 50%).

However, setting affinity so that one CPU was 100% and the other was 0% had no significant effect on the run times. (And by "significant" I mean statistically significant - I literally ran hundreds of runs in each configuration.)\\

By the way, with Win2k3 (and XP 64-bit, really the same system) you see much less "balancing" - a single-threaded app will stick to a CPU for much longer.

I suspect if any observable difference occurs depends upon the application, dataset, etc.

I'm guessing the 50% "balanced" method was done to try and keep a single CPU from heating up too much, and with the advent of multicore systems, it probably no longer matters which core is generating the heat due to them being in a single package.

It could also be MS found that certain circumstances (like mine) resulted in improvements in processing.

    Interesting stuff.

Yes, they should just just shut-up and vote for corporate-sponsored Republicrats or Converalabour every four or five years and take it.

It's a shame that there is no longer any meaningful democracy.

Whoa... apparently you have a little trouble reading, or at least understanding the context of an argument. I said nothing about meaningful democracy, "shutting up and taking it", or anything of the sort. In fact, if you read it again, what I said is that democracry is what's at stake here. Sure, we're getting into hyperbole now, but the fact is that democracry does NOT mean breaking the rules for your personal gain or the gain of your cause. Democracy is about creating a reasoned, rational voice, that is backed by a majority of the people. You can create that majority any way you like, but it has to remain within the confines of what's ethical and legal, or you've effectively destroyed everything that democracy stands for. Law, reason, and order are the foundation of democracy.

Yes, and that certainly justifies being a loudmouthed asshat. There are ways you can get a message out without being a douchebag, but that's rapidly becoming a lost art on any part of the political spectrum.
Hah! That's another way of putting it, but essentially this was my point. The political process has become a mockery, and the same is true of many social causes. It's become a platform for people to act of order, and think they can get away with it because it's "for a good cause." If you really want to further your cause do it the right way... educate people, write clear, concise, and interesting literature, create a buzz with a well-made documentary, have peaceful, organized, large scale rallies. But purchasing a booth at a trade show and then breaking the rules of the contract you signed by overstepping your bounds is inappropriate and unethical. Semantics maybe, but it's hypocritical and just as bad as the cause you're fighting.

Alright. Let's go about it this way, using your own terminology.

How has Apple had success "lining their pockets full of cash."

How has Apple gotten us "hooked on using their products."

Are you suggesting they borrowed Harry Potter's wand and tranced us into purchases, held guns to our heads, or imposed government regulations requiring the purchase of iPod Nanos?

Or - what I believe to be more likely - are you just blathering, "I don't like corporations, and I happen to be on an Apple message board"?

They don't care about us, they just want our money, like any business.

I can't dumb this statement down any further, sorry. Go and have a coffee and calm down.

you just admitted that what you are doing is wrong.

Uh no I didn't. I just interpreted the law. As someone implied earlier, this could all be a ruse. I might not have done anything I said in this thread. No one here can know 100% for sure, because you did not witness the event I claim occurred. That simple fact, in addition to any record searching anyone did without a warrant (which would be an invasion of privacy) would get anything I say in this thread thrown out of court faster than you could blink.

Rumors of an Apple Phone have been ongoing for years (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2002/08/20020818203655.shtml) with Apple laying claim to the domain iPhone.org (http://www.iphone.org) since 1999 and the trademark for iPhone (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2002/12/20021203005112.shtml) in 2002. Meanwhile, a number of Phone related patents (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/05/20060505202447.shtml) have also surfaced showing that Apple has been researching this option.

Recently, analysts have claimed (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060905150232.shtml) that the Apple phone is essentially ready with a brief description:

The design will be an iPod nano-like candy bar form factor and come in three colors

Meanwhile, Steve Jobs has been said (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/08/20060811110535.shtml) to be talking up the upcoming phone, despite being traditionally secretive about unannounced products.

One reliable MacRumors.com source has provided a more detailed description of one of the prototypes for the upcoming Apple Phone. The description has yielded this artist's rendition of the phone. The phone offers a familiar look to iPod owners, with the preservation of the iPod click-wheel.

The click-wheel is closer to the bottom of the device with the screen taking a vertical orientation. The click-wheel portion of the device reportedly slides down to reveal a traditional numeric dial-pad underneath. The front is black, while the back is chrome like the current iPod.

As an artist rendition, details such as the exact proportions of the screen are not necessarily accurate.

The preservation of the click-wheel navigator could add credence to evidence (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060913170940.shtml) that iTunes has the ability to transfer the new iPod games to certain mobile phones. Jobs had stated that the games had been designed for click-wheel playability.

Rather than a RAID, what they need is a foolproof NAS (Network-attached storage). A NAS is basically a special purpose computer that has a network port (wired/wireless) as well as internal/external storage through USB/SATA/eSATA. For example D-Link makes a NAS that is compatible with uPnP as well as Bonjour. This box has space for an internal hard drive (ATA) as well as USB2 for external HDs. It has 802.11g wireless as well as ethernet port. You just connect is as another network device in your home and then you can dump your media into it from your PC/Mac. So, for people with laptops, you can buy your media or RIP them into the NAS and then iTV can use it. This can work well for people with laptops. iTV should be able to work off of a NAS rather than a PC/Mac.

The current versions of NAS may not be foolproof (Apple quality standards) and therefore this is a companion product that Apple could produce for home media storage. Another advantage of the NAS is that it can be near where iTV is rather than the computer since the bandwidth requirements for iTV are more important than for the computer. You don't want glitches while playing back media. So, you could live with downloading the media from online into NAS directly (through a slower wireless connection). Then have the NAS connected through wired ethernet to iTV.

    Hope this makes sense!!

Makes sense to me but you should be informing the other guy. :)

'app store' means simply 'store at which apps are offered for sale,'

Go back five years. I tell you "Someone told me that I should use iMovie to edit the movies that I made with my video camera. Where can I buy it"? You say: "You should go to an app store". I say "What on earth is an app store?"

No, that wouldn't have happened. You would have said "You should go to a computer store". "You might try a games store, they might have it". You would never have said "You should go to an app store".

No one else has yet mentioned that the Airport Extreme is currently reflecting a 1-3 week shipping period (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/1.RSLID?mco=B842E400&nplm=M8799LL%2FA), while the Airport Express (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/1.RSLID?mco=7D88DA55&nplm=M9470LL%2FA) still says it will ship within 24 hours on the Apple Store Online. It would seem that it is the Extreme and not the Express to be getting the update.

That makes sense if Apple is going 802.11n-draft. The Extreme needs -N support so the mystery box has something to talk to.

Airfoil still needs the Airfoil installed on your computer to work, it won't run with just the iOS apps. I think pika2000 is asking about iOS apps that emulate an airport express, so that you could send the same audio to every device in your house.
Well, you CAN send the same audio to every device in your house, as long as the audio originates on your Mac (which includes simply plugging in any iOS device or iPod into your Mac).
